LA

Pacific Coast Highway / LA
7-10 November 2006

Woah hang on LA - we're in San Fran and SICK of flying. Let's Drive. It's a no brainer. Four wheels, a tank full of gas and The Pacific Coast Highway ...

It was all good apart from there was no tank. Or gas. Instead we had a Pontiac full of petrol. But at least we had XM Satellite Radio. Very useful because whenever I wanted a kids radio station I just had to cry and there it was. And when Mama went to sleep, Dada used to chose sports. And when the views out of the window were particularly breathtaking, Dada thought it would be appropriate AND romantic to put on Classical ... but he wouldn't like me to tell you that.

We went thru some huge forests in Santa Cruz then came Mama's favourite place - Carmel

Why on earth did she like that place? It was just sand and shopping. Oh.

Ethers recommended the Nepenthe Restaurant, dunno why, Mama and Dada just kept saying 'Wow' when they looked AWAY from the restaurant. Here's whats happening there now. If you look really closely you can smell the big poo I did

After that we hit Big Sur, where I was expecting to meet a large teacher, but didn't. Then we saw some lazy fat slobs lying on the beach ... and nowhere near Oz yet!

Then Pismo Beach. We were going to stop at San Luis Obispo, but the name is just too stupid so pushed on thru to Santa Barbara where we spent the night in a Day's Inn, which was, surprisingly a very nice place to stay (we were expecting accomodation a la 'My Name Is Earl'). Then we hit LA in what would transpire to be a pretty cr*ap few days. First stop was Santa Monica, a very nice stop for lunch. Here's me moving into my clingy 'Mama' period

What a babe. LA is a traffic nightmare. We were staying near Disneyland and trips to Hollywood would mean 5 hours in the car.

Hwood was rubbish and tacky, but at least I met Batman and Spidey.

They say the camera adds 10 pounds, and by the look of Batman a LOT of people took the same picture. There was something for Mama and Dada though. For Dada - Arnie. And for Mama - Rodeo drive with chandeliers in the road!

The Hilton was nice, but it's a bit weird being made to sleep in the toilet every night. Apparently it's "better for everyone", but I'd much rather spend my nights wriggling as much as possible in between Mama and Dada in their bed. We couldn't leave LA soon enough; ready to start the real adventure - New Zealand and the 'Search for a flat bit' ...
